Kevin Interview: KIIS FM, LA, Aug 29-00
JOJO: "OMG,
ladies and gentlemen, for a quick stop in, let's give it up for the
man, Kevin Richardson from the Backstreet Boys"
Kevin:"What's
up JOJO?"
JOJO: "Now dude, I've hung out with Howie quite a bit, AJ here
and there, but never sat down with you. So first things first. Look at
my hair, do you think it's too weird or are you cool with it?" *note,
JOJO has really crazy hair, so he asks everyone what they think of his
hair.
Kevin: "I
like it."
JOJO: "Thank
you bro."
Kevin: "Dare
to be different."
JOJO: "Can
I ask you? How was the honeymoon? And all that?"
Kevin: "We
went on a honeymoon. We went to Italy and I ate a lot of pasta and
olives,
and I gained about ten pounds, but I'm working out."
Kaitlynn(caller,
also me!! LoL): "JOJO, let me ask Kevin a question."
JOJO: "Oh
yeah go ahead"
Kaitlynn: "Since
you've been married, has anything changed?"
Kevin: "I
don’t feel any different. She's my buddy and it's all good. I don't
feel
any different.. I actually have seen her less since
we've been married probably."
JOJO: "When
you write material for your album and all that stuff, which I'm going
to get to here in a couple of seconds, did you ever run
some of this stuff by your wife? And get her thoughts on it and see what
she thought about it?"
Kevin: "Oh,
like always through the years. I mean, I've been dating her on and
off now for eight years. So, I've always asked her opinion
on things. I always ask my family and my friends just bounce things.
It's good to have an outsiders point of view 'cause you'll be listening
to the song for like three or four days in the studio over and over and
over again, and at first you're excited about it, but then after a while
you get kind of numb too. So, it's good to have an outsider's opinion.
JOJO: "The
new album that's coming out. What did she think about it?"
Kevin: "She's
actually only heard about three tracks, because that's all I've broughtten…broughtten?
That's a new word."
JOJO: "Let's get the dictionary out Kevin." (laughter)
Kevin: "That's
all that I've brought with me…home 'cause we're waiting on some of
the mixes to come back. She likes what she's heard."
JOJO: "Hey,
let me get your opinion on the new album coming out."
Kevin: "I'm
happy with it. I'm excited about it. We wrote a song that we recorded
with Baby Face and also produced, so we're excited probably
about that. We're doing something work with Rodney Jerkins."
JOJO: "Nice."
Kevin: " And
of course, we're doing some more work with Max and them over in Sweden.
We feel like we got a nice well rounded album."
JOJO: "Would
it be safe to say you stayed true to the Backstreet sound, but kind
of grew some as well?"
Kevin: "I
feel like it. Yeah, I feel like we're continually growing as writers
and
as singers."
JOJO: "Are
you just as happy with this album as you were the last album? 'Cause
the
last album was large. So, do you kind of compare them?"
Kevin: "Yeah,
it's tough to say. It's been like a week since I've heard a lot of
the stuff we did. We're waiting on some of the mixes to
come back. When we get all the mixes done, we got about 16 sounds were
going to sit down and just pick the best tracks that we all feel are
the strongest songs."
JOJO: "Oh
wow! I thought the album was totally totally done, but you guys have
a little
selecting process to go through. Cool. What about
the tour?"
Kevin: "We're
already starting to plan the tour. Planning on hitting the road end
of February.
JOJO: "Okay,
let me jump into this. Now, AJ did the solo thing with Johnny No Name
and Howie did…didn't he do like a Latin kind of deal
going on?"
Kevin: "Yeah,
he had a little Latin ensemble going on."
JOJO: "Any
plans on doing something like that yourself? Or is it just about the
group
right now?"
Kevin: "I've
just been writing and planning on possibly doing some acting and doing
a little bit of directing."
JOJO: "No
kidding, if you had a dream role, what would it be?"
Kevin: "In
high school doing stuff, I did musical theatre and dinner theatre.
I like
characters."
JOJO: "Like
bad ass dude?"
Kevin: "Yeah.
Just comedy. I like comedy. I maybe would like to play …….."
JOJO: "SSSStop
it."
Kevin: "No,
I don't know, just characters. I like doing something that's totally
over in left field."
JOJO: "So,
not normal."
Kevin: "Somebody
that fans or people wouldn't think I'd do."
JOJO: "Finally
bro, how long have you been married? Is it like one, two months?"
Kevin: "Two
months."
JOJO: "I'm
curious how you worked that out. 'Cause you've got screaming girls
on you all
the time and all over the world. You can't hide anywhere.
How do you guys stay together? Was it tough? How does that work?"
Kevin: "Like
I said. Once we started touring and stuff, we've broken up several
times, but she's my friend. She's a friend, and she's also
a hot fan. So, I feel like I'm very lucky. I got a hot fan, beautiful
person, and a hot sexy wife. She's hot, she's beautiful, she's sexy.
And she's a good person on the inside. Which is most important. Because
when we get older and the materialistic, outside, exterior starts to
crumble. She's still got that beautiful heart."
JOJO: "So,
you're saying when you get old and ugly. You guys will still have something
special on the inside. There you go you guys, the
man, Kevin from the Backstreet Boys."
Kevin: "We'll
see you guys when we swing around for promotions.
